My Tablet Reviews

I've had the honor/ability to own quite a few second-hand drawing tablets! So I figured I'd leave my reviews/thoughts here for those interested.

Wacom Cintiqs

A brief disclaimer: All Wacom Cintiqs I've owned have been second or even third hand. These are just my experiences for these tablets. I will not be getting into the more technical stats of any of these tablets, just things that I think people will find relevant.

Wacom Cintiq 13HDMy 13HD I received third-hand, and the previous owner had used it for years, every day, as a professional animator. I love this little tablet, and only upgraded due to my eyesight needing something bigger, which is ironically the same reason the animator upgraded and sold it to me.Size: 13 inchesThe size of the 13HD is quite small, but that makes it excellent for those who don't have a lot of space or don't want a huge tablet. That being said, for some it might be too small.Pros: Small, durable, reliable, good-looking screen.
Cons: Power cord.
The main issue with the 13HD is most definitely the power cord. Wacom made this mistake once and fixed it promptly after. The power cord of the 13HD extends out the right side of the tablet, and it hates being touched or moved. This takes away a lot of the potential for it to be a travel tablet, and in fact makes it frustrating to use in some instances. The stand it comes with is something I never had issues with. It's not the most intuitive, and some did not and will not like it, but it's simple enough that I cannot hate it and it did its job perfectly fine. You can easily buy a replacement if you wanted due to its size.

Ease of finding screen protectors: 4/5
Reliability: 4/5, -1 for power cordSize: SmallResolution: 1920x1080Overall rating: 8/10, -1 for the power cord.

Wacom Cintiq 16My Cintiq 16 I received second-hand from a tattooing student. She sold it due to wanting to get an iPad Pro instead as it made more sense in her eventual profession.Size: 16 inchesThe size of the 16 is a good mid-way for people. In fact, I think this is the perfect size for a LOT of people. You can travel with it, as I have multiple times, on planes or on roadtrips.Pros: Medium size, durable, beautiful screen, fixed power cord.
Cons: No express keys.
Since this is reviewing the Cintiq 16, not the pro or even the newest version, this tablet does not have express keys or touchscreen. I ended up buying a Wacom Remote for this, and I liked the combination quite a lot. However, for those who don't like using remotes and like using express keys exclusively, it can be a negative. This does not come with a stand by default, but does have two legs you can use to prop it up. To be honest, this can be dividing for people as it puts it at an un-adjustable angle. I normally used this tablet on my lap or I did use the legs since I didn't mind them very much.

Ease of finding screen protectors: 5/5, it's the most common one I see.

Wacom Cintiq 27QHD TouchMy Cintiq 27QHD Touch I bought off of a company liquidation on Ebay. It doesn't look like it was ever used, or it was used very gingerly.Size: 30 inches total... A monster. This tablet is not for hobbyists, or at least ones that do not have a large setup. This thing is gigantic. It's huge. It's a total monster of a tablet. It's 30 inches all the way across. The bevel is thick and magnetic to allow the Wacom Remote to stick to the side. The remote does... eventually slide down, though.Pros: Beautiful screen, touchscreen can be turned on/off, 2k resolution.
Cons: Size (for those who don't want a 30" tablet in their house, lol), no express keys.
Like the 16, this massive man does NOT have express keys. You're expected to use the Wacom Remote with this, and it's even magnetic in the bevel to allow this to happen. Like the 16, it does have little legs you can use to prop it up... But I assure you those are not going to help you. The tablet is 30" long and 18" tall. You're going to need a stand or a monitor arm for this guy. This does not typically come with a stand or arm by default. If you're fortunate enough to find a seller who has these things, and you have the space and desire for a gigantic tablet, then it might be worth it. The touch screen is not the greatest, but it certainly does its job. It's not the best they've done (due to it being older) but it's not the worst by any means.I would NOT recommend this one for hobbyists. This requires some dedication on your end.

Ease of finding screen protectors: 2/5, you'll need to find a specialty store or trust the random ones on Amazon if you're brave.
Reliability: 4/5Size: GiantResolution: 2560x1440Overall rating: 6.5/10, -1.5 for screen protector hunt, -1 for absolute size.I want to rate it higher, but it is just NOT for hobbyists which is who I'd imagine would look at my reviews, haha. For professionals, I'd give it a solid 8/10.

Wacom Cintiq 22HDMy Cintiq 22HD, while manufactured in 2013, was only used gingerly for 1 year in 2023. It's in practically mint condition and came with its original stand as well.Size: 25 inches long, 15 inches tall. This tablet is also not for hobbyists persay, but I do think it would make more sense for one if compared to the 27QHD. This was the industry standard for a long time, and it is very clear why.Pros: Beautiful screen, 18 express keys, size(can be for those who want a big boi, but not too big), reliable.
Cons: Heavy (naturally)
Unlike the previous two, this thing is LITTERED with express keys. It can be used left or right handed, and the express keys show it. They do not have to be mirrored, so you do indeed have a selection. The 22HD also has touch strips in the back, for zoom or brush sizes, etc. This does have a stand, but not every seller will have it. If you do end up getting it with the stand, the stand is a nice thing to have. For full adjustability, I'd still recommend a monitor arm. The stand itself is interesting... It only uses two screws to connect to the actual tablet. That being said, it's actually very sturdy. The stand has four legs, and the back two have wheels so you can adjust it easier. While the screen is only 1920x1080, it looks gorgeous even at this size.I would NOT recommend this one for hobbyists normally due to its size. While not as huge as the 27QHD, it's still relatively large and requires space.

Wacom Intuos

Wacom Intuos Creative, SmallThis was my very first drawing tablet! To be honest, this was well over a decade ago, so honestly I'm just going off my memory.Size: 6 inchThis was honestly a wonderful start for me. While when I got it, it was still a little expensive for my family, nowadays they are very inexpensive. Wonderful for beginners, as it's simple and very small so it doesn't take up much space at all.Pros: Perfect for travel
Cons: No screen (for those who want a screen, see Cintiqs)
I used this thing for years until it finally gave out on me mostly. Really, it was the pressure sensitivity that for some reason just absolutely stopped working no matter what I did. At the time, I was still new to drawing tablets so it may have been something I could have fixed. At the time, however, I tried everything I could think of.This doesn't need a stand since it's so small, and it does have express keys which is nice. It only has the four, but for a beginner this should be fine. For what it is, it's a wonderful little tablet.

Wacom Intuos Pro Large, Paper EditionThis was my second drawing tablet, and a wonderful gift from my mother. I treasure this thing, and it has lasted well over the decade I've had it.Size: 16 inch, 12 inch active areaI love this tablet. For a screenless, I would choose nothing else. This has lasted me over a decade, and it does admittedly have a lot of sentimentality for me. That being said, it works great and I would highly recommend it.Pros: Can still travel with it, very reliable, larger size for larger sweeps of your arm, express keys and express ring
Cons: No screen (for those who want a screen, see Cintiqs), may scratch easily
I used this thing until I finally got my first Cintiq. I mostly went for Cintiqs after because of my eyesight. However, if you're setup is right, eyesight shouldn't be an issue. My cats did leave some scratches in mine, as did my pen, so you might want to consider getting the Intuos's equivalent to a screen protector if that's something that you're concerned about. This doesn't need a stand depending on your setup, or really at all. Since your monitor is the screen, you won't have too many issues with needing a stand for it at all.The paper aspect of it was definitely fun, but I never used it as much as the actual tablet itself. However, it's a really neat feature to have.

Artist 12 Pen Display, 2nd GenI didn't own this one for long, if I'm honest. Instead I sold it to my friend and used the money to buy my Cintiq 16.Size: 13 inches. For what this tablet is, and the price, it was perfectly fine! Has express keys, a HD screen... There were just things about it that were pet peeves for me personally.Pros: Affordable new, screen was perfectly fine, express keys, can be used solely with USB-C if the generation is right.
Cons: Lift-off for the pen was tiny for some reason, drivers were a constant pain for me.
I may have liked this tablet more if I hadn't had my Cintiq 13HD before it. But besides the minor differences that irked my preferences, the drivers were a constant problem that I faced at every turn. I don't know if it was my laptop, truly. I didn't use it with my desktop at all since it was supposed to strictly be for travel/college classes. But the drivers were so finicky that I didn't want to deal with it.Stands are easy to find for this guy, actually, due to its size. And if you have no driver issues then it's a great little tablet that's affordable. My friend, who I sold it to, uses it without issues.

Ease of finding screen protectors: 5/5
Reliability: 3/5Size: SmallResolution: 1920x1080Overall rating: 6/10 The drivers really made it unreliable for me personally, and the little pet peeves mixed with that honestly left a bad taste in my mouth. :(
